Rabbi's pictureCantorial Soloist Tracy Kasner Greaves

This is Tracy's fourth year as Ba'alat Musaf with Congregation Etz Chayim. Tracy is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor degree in Education. Musical training began for Tracy at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet where she studied Ballet and other dance forms and was a member of the Advanced Musical Theatre Company. Tracy is a trained vocalist having studied music and voice for over 10 years with the noted vocal instructor Diane Berger at the Conservatory of Music and Arts. Hebrew and Jewish music became a huge part of Tracy's life when she joined Chai in 1991 - she is now headed into her fifth season as Artistic Director of the ensemble. When Tracy was in High School (at Joseph Wolinsky Collegiate), she worked for Cantor Sanford Cohn at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue in the areas of programming and teaching synagogue skills. Cantor Cohn became a valued mentor and she began devoting some of her study of music to Chazanut. Tracy has since continued to study Cantorial music with Cantor Cohn when she began her position as Cantorial Soloist at Congregation Etz Chayim. Tracy is married to David Greaves, and they have a daughter, Nesya.

Rabbi's pictureTorah Reader Leon Berger

Leon Berger is originally from Poland, and came to Winnipeg in 1949 to start what turned out to be a 47 year career teaching at Talmud Torah and Joseph Wolinsky Collegiate. He retired in 1996. He says that he still misses teaching occasionally. He has three sons, Max, Jack & Hart. It was Rabbi Neal Rose who first asked him to be the Torah Reader at the Beth Israel Synagogue. That was 20 years ago. Not only does he enjoy reading the Torah, but he also enjoys discussing the readings.
